Onboarding a QSEHRA with Salusion

This video walks through the complete onboarding process for creating a QSEHRA inside the Salusion platform — from creating your administrator account to inviting employees and activating reimbursements.

Everything happens inside a guided workflow. The information you enter automatically generates your plan documents and governs how your QSEHRA operates.

What You’ll Do During Setup

During onboarding, you will:

• Create your administrator account
• Select QSEHRA as your HRA type
• Choose your plan year start date
• Define employee eligibility
• Decide which expenses are reimbursable
• Set your monthly allowance structure
• Choose your reimbursement method
• Add and invite employees

Before You Start: Two Decisions to Think Through

Most of setup is straightforward. There are two areas worth deciding in advance.

1. What Expenses Will You Reimburse?

A QSEHRA can reimburse individual insurance premiums and out-of-pocket medical expenses.

The only real nuance involves taxable premiums. If an employee is covered under a spouse’s group health plan and their premium is already being paid pre-tax through a cafeteria plan, reimbursing that same premium through a QSEHRA cannot also be tax-free. That reimbursement must be treated as taxable wages and processed through payroll.

Allowing taxable reimbursements requires payroll coordination so proper withholdings are applied. Most employers choose to exclude those premiums and keep all reimbursements non-taxable so the process remains fully automated.

2. How Much Will You Make Available?

You’ll set a monthly allowance. That amount accrues monthly throughout the plan year, up to each employee’s annual maximum benefit.  Reimbursements are limited to the balance available at the time an expense is processed.

Salusion allows four structures:

• Same amount for everyone
• By family size
• By age
• By age and family size
